BUILDING A HOBBY
The Oxford dictionary defines hobby as “something that you do regularly for pleasure in your free time”, but in the present time, it is not that simple. Let’s start this article with a question, have you ever felt clueless whenever asked about your hobby? If yes, you are not alone. The modern education system does not leave time apart from the curriculars for school and college students to learn new activities and grow them into hobbies.
The next question that arises is why does one require to have a hobby? As per studies, your hobby can help you develop new abilities and talents such as creativity, problem – solving, communication, coordination and much more. In my opinion, a hobby helps you become more confident and find yourself. Even if all those arguments don’t convince you, hobbies play a crucial part in career building and interview. Most companies and colleges need their candidates to have a hobby. Building your hobby helps you in enjoying the life and enjoying yourself too.
What are the options?
Reading, writing, sports, music – this is a list of a few options and probably the only options that most people are familiar with, and this perspective makes us feel bored even with the idea of starting a new activity. Therefore, it becomes essential for one to research their option. Depending on your nature, interests and resources, you should make a decision of building your hobby. Some options include:
- Video editing
- Meme creation
- Sports analytics
- Pottery
- Origami
- Podcasting
- Baking
- Geo – politics analytics
- Blogging and much more
It can feel intimidating at first but once you get into the habit of performing and practicing an activity on a daily. One must understand that learning something new requires patience and consistency. It is all a game of trials and errors but the key lies in never giving up. All you need is to remind yourself why you started and that would be enough motivation for you to continue.
Last but not the least, always remember that a hobby is a fun activity and not a burden. It is just to improve your personality and build new skills. Learn to manage time between your work and hobbies to find that perfect balance for you and you shall be alright.
